As you may recall or have noticed in the WvW meeting, we only touched upon the topic of people commanding for our guild in WvW. The reason for that is that I wanted a chance to speak with the other officers first to make sure we had a consensus in terms of general guidelines to make sure we’re on the same page. Now that we’ve had that chance, I’d like to go into more details now.
Basically, we would like to make it easier for people that do what to try commanding to do so – whether you are just interested in leading a WvW dailies run, pugmanding, or being the tag for a guild run. We may need to tweak things as we go along, but we’re trying to keep to the guidelines simple and easy to understand.
The first step is pretty simple, let one of the officers know that you’re interested in commanding and what kind of training you’d like.
I could see training taking a few different forms:
- We could work with you on a 1 on 1 basis as there are a number of people that are willing to help train.
- It could be part of the group training we’re planning for helping people with general WvW topics – if you’d be comfortable with that.
- It could be done as part of a WvW daily run as we generally end up doing a little more than strictly just the dailies.
- Or you could try jumping into the fire and learn on the fly while commanding a guild WvW run.
However, we will ask newer members to wait until they have reached the “Member” rank before you are allowed to command. This way you’ve been in the guild for a couple weeks and we’ve started to get to know you. And, since we’ll be helping you to get comfortable with commanding, you won’t have to worry about not being able to claim things in WvW.
Also, we expect members that want to command will be a good representative for our guild. That means, we don’t want people that are going to be rude, disrespectful, abusive, etc to the community or our own guild members. It isn’t just your own reputation that you have to protect. We’ll likely hear about it even if there aren’t any Sol members around at the time. And, I’ve seen a number of commanders lose their zerg just by being a jerk.
Now then, for the best part, we will do our best to work with you in letting you request a particular day to command. We’ve noticed in the past that having a set day for people wanting to command can be too limited and unintentionally exclude people. So, if you have your eye on a particular day, let us know and we’ll help.
Side note: For those of you interested in pugmanding, we realize there may be times where you want to rally the troops when one of us can’t run with you. As a result, we are willing to allow runs without requiring supervisor. However, if there is negative feedback from the community, we will take it seriously and there may be consequences depending on the nature of the complaints. (On a personal note, I would recommend that you have some experience or comfort-level with commanding before starting to pugmand. It is very different than commanding a guild group and poses different challenges.)
