[Sol] Cares:

You may have seen some talk about Pink Day in guild chat, map chat, and on the forums, but may not know what Pink Day is, or what our guild has to do with it.

Pink Day in LA is a fundraising event which is currently organized largely by MALIBU Barbie (an ambassador in our own guild). Pink Day in LA began in 2007 in Guild Wars 1, where many players dyed their armor pink and gathered in Lions Arch to participate in events and raise money for cancer research. In 2010, GW-EN (Gaming World Entertainment Network) took over responsibility of organizing the event with Barbie in the lead; that year the event surpassed all expectations raising over $10,000 CND for the Canadian Cancer Research Society! Since then, the event has been annually held in Lions Arch, with participants showing off all shades of pink, playing games, and coming together for a good cause. Pink Day in LA and Barbie even got a personal shout out from ArenaNet at PAX in August!

Whether it be a grandparent, sibling, friend, parent, child, etc; cancer is something that has effected most, if not each of us, in a personal way. Cancer is often seen as something that can tear us apart from the ones we love. This event focuses on coming together as a gaming community, to bring awareness to this life altering topic and raising money which supports cancer research. In the past years of Pink Day in LA, the Guild Wars 2 community has shown how capable and how generous gamers can be!

So what has our guild done so far to support this amazing event? We started off with an idea to donate Twilight, a greatsword legendary, to the organizers so it can be given out as a prize for the event. We weren't sure how effectively our guild would be able to create a legendary weapon as they are so time consuming and expensive. To give an idea of how much legendary weapons are worth, Twilight is for sale on the trading post at 4,000 gold. We were all blown away when so many members of our guild rushed to help us build Twilight, that we had completed it in less than 2 days! At this time, we set our sights on building the other legendary greatsword, Sunrise. Building two legendary weapons in a short period of time was going to be a tough task we knew, but we also knew how generous the members of our guild are. Even still, we were shocked when Sunrise was completed not long after. We had initially thought building one legendary would be a long process, and now we had completed two with over a month left to go, thanks to the outstanding generosity from OUR GUILD! Following this, an officer received an anonymous donation from a guildie of a completed THIRD legendary weapon to donate- the shield Flameseeker Prophecies! None of us could believe that we had come together as a guild, to create and donate three legendary weapons! But it didn't end there - we decided with so much time left, to go for a fourth legendary weapon to donate. We came together, grinded, helped each other with map completion, donated materials, and created the mace, Moot. And there we had it, FOUR (4) LEGENDARY weapons, created as a team, as a guild, to donate for this amazing cause. The value of these four weapons combined is roughly 13,100 gold!!!! It is projected that each weapon will be auctioned off at $2,000 - $2,500 CND, so the four weapons our guild donated may raise as much as $10,000 CND for cancer research!! Our hearts are swelling with pride at the overwhelming generosity our guild has displayed here. To go with this, the news of [Sol]'s donations has spread, and it has inspired other guilds to do the same - come together with each other and create something for Pink Day! We should all feel so overjoyed and gratified at all the good our guild has done.

We'll be gathering up in Lions Arch on Saturday, October 17 for the Pink Day celebration! Dye your armor pink and get ready to participate in events! Some favorite events include a jumping puzzle race; a crafting competition, and the famous "Strike a Pose" contest, where a Box of Fun is set to petrify mode and members are invited to get their character to jump/dodge/strike/etc at the perfect time and be petrified in that pose. Prizes will be awarded to contest winners; and anyone who donates more than $10 CND is entered into a raffle for additional prizes. Prizes in the past have varied from in-game backpack sets, exclusive gem store items, legendary and exotic weapons, to T-shirts, gaming equipment, and even laptops to name a few!

Finally, we can't speak highly enough of all our members. We really displayed the true power of coming together and giving towards a cause that has touched so many of us. We would like to thank everyone who donated towards making these four legendary weapons, including Galasso, thetrumpetguy, Harry Bigglesworth, AngelWriter, Cherry Ace, Remaran, Entro, EverSkye, Albinofury, TitanLeo, BigDaddy, Mel, and of course our anonymous donor! We can't express enough thanks to all of you for making this generous donation possible! We hope to see everyone in LA for Pink Day on October 17!

Waddling for a Cure:

On September 27th, a hoard of pink quaggans made a slow trek from Rata Sum to Ebonhawke in Fields of Ruin.

Why would they do this? You see, the quaggans wanted all of Tyria to know that Pink Day in LA was coming. They care so much about finding a cure for cancer and they needed Tyrians to know there was a way for them to help.

Over five hours of waddling from one end of the world to the other and the quaggans had enticed both friends and strangers alike to start putting forth their resources. Once they reached their destination, $3,100 had been raised to fund cancer research. Tyrians are truely amazing and the quaggans can't wait to see what wonderful things they'll do on Pink Day.

Quaggan Waddle was immensely fun and definitely something players should find their way to next year. Five hours and fifteern minutes to walk from Rata Sum to Ebonhawke and the whole trek was a blast. The event TeamSpeak was filled with bad puns and silly games. Map chat was spammed with quaggan themed movie titles and song titles. People's reactions to stumbling upon a train of pink quaggans was always fun to see. Even some Anet devs came to hang with us.

I know that everyone who came out had a great time. I hope to see even more quaggans next year.

Haunting the Hollows:   Heart of Thorns:

GUYS! The Heart of Thorns expansion is almost here!! And then Halloween is right around the corner! [Sol] is planning to celebrate both events in one awesome night! October 24, we are going to be capturing our very own Guild Hall, and we're hoping everyone will come help us! After we've successfully captured it, we'll be holding a bit of a Costume Party to celebrate Halloween! Show up with your character dressed as your favorite Disney princess, superhero, Harry Potter character - anything!! We'll be hanging out in team speak, just getting to know each other, talking about our favorite Halloween movies, and having fun. And if you're feeling adventurous, enter into our Costume Contest! This will be a low-key, relaxed, and simple contest - just dress up and show up; but the prizes will still be awesome!! Check out the costume contest details (including rules and prizes) HERE, and don't forget to sign up! Hope to see everyone there, and in costume :D

What are you most looking forward to in the upcoming Heart of Thorns expansion?  The Heart of Thorns expansion holds many new and exciting changes for the game.

Our three fearless leaders are looking forward to:

Insane Killbane: GUILD HALLS!!!
Sol The Guardian: What I'm really looking forward to is the guild halls addition to the game! I'm looking forward for more new events that will help us work together even more as a community! I can't wait to see everyone in game!
Atravidua: All the things! So many new opportunities to create Guild Community Events! And this legendary axe. Did you see?!

And here's what some of our other members are looking forward to:

Marcooz: I'm looking forward to, not what we already know about the expansion, but all the new surprises we don't know yet!
Specialist: Reapers and Guild Halls.
FondleMyWookie: Guild Halls and Raids! It'll be awesome to have more stuff for everyone to take part in as a guild. Actually, scratch that. I'm excited for the new legendary axe and nothing else. My life was meaningless before i saw it.
Brandicitus: More game play and more areas to explore. And for Revanent to be released so Buttons will stop talking about his future build on our dates.
Southghost: Different play styles. In wvw, I'm not the most skilled player and I like alternative builds that throw the enemy off balance.
Sweetcheekxx: Guild Halls, doing things as a guild more. As the game title goes, "Guild Wars".

So what are YOU most excited for?  Excited for something not mentioned here?  Let's hype it up in guild chat and get others excited too! I'm looking forward to our guild growing and having tons of fun with this expansion! Can't wait!

 WvW and A New Community:

1. Ok, let’s get right into it. Who are some of the better commanders to follow on Sorrow’s Furnace?

Ashara: Quaggan Mode [Quag]; Aurora Sunstar & Nicholas the Great [Suns]; Ghost of War [Kota]; Tobee [bana]; Silverah [Mist]; our good friend Jor [War]; and of course, Insane. (Angel is adding Ashara in here, because he’s too humble to say himself.)

Entro: Insane, Jor [War]. Quaggan Mode [Quag].

Tiva: Insane, Ted, Ashara (of course), Jor [War], Tobee [bana], Nicholas [Suns], Silverah [Mist], Ghost of War [Kota], Ikkiroshi [War].

2a. Ashara, as a commander, how is it working with the other SF commanders?

A: Speaking as a newer commander, it seems like there are more attempts to work together - even if the commanders haven’t worked together before. And, it may just be my growing experience and confidence, but I generally feel more comfortable reaching out to commanders that I know are tagged up to see if we have an opportunity to work together or just relay information. I’ve also noticed more commanders reaching out to me.

2b. Are they reaching out in TS? Like how sometimes Ori will come in and ask for help, or like Edgar did when he tested all the new transfers? Using the TS commander chat? Or whispers?

A: Map chat and whispers for the most part, since I wasn’t set up for commander chat in TS. Although, there has been TS communication from different maps when I’ve pugmanded.

3. How does the WvW experience differ on SF as opposed to HoD?

A: I think one thing we enjoyed was how welcoming people have been. Also, the lower tier matchups were like a much needed vacation from the grind we’d been facing in high T4/low T3. And scouting, for the most part, has seemed to be a lot better here than it was on HoD, both in the map and call outs for help in our BL.

E: It’s a much more friendly environment. It’s nice to not get attacked by people on my own server. it’s a nice place.

T: Friends and Servermates aren’t down your throat. I didn’t like being bossed around and disrespected on HoD. It’s friendly here. A more tight-knit community. I didn’t like splitting the server.

4. Ashara, how does commanding on SF differ from commanding on HoD?

A: I would say that the level of communication I’ve experienced on SF has helped me a lot. In comparison, I feel like HoD had less communication and there was a perception within the community that the tags often worked independently of each other.

5. What advice would you give to someone just starting in WvW on SF?

A: If you’re looking to learn and improve your game in WvW, TeamSpeak is a very useful program to have. I found that I learned a fair bit about WvW by listening to commanders and others in channel. But, it also lead me to join Sol because I liked what I heard when I joined their channel. It just makes some things much easier than just working in chat.

E: Don’t be afraid to play how you like. Example, I always wanted to play venom share, so I did. (Which I took some flack for on HoD.)

T: Try to immerse yourself in it. Follow a good commander. Zerging is great. Someone once told me this: “Just follow the guy with the nacho chip on his head.” Lol.

6. Ashara, you said before that the people on SF have been very welcoming….care to elaborate?

A: I think it all started with the meetings we had to speak with the representatives from SF and continued with things like the very first time that I went into WvW I ended up running with a couple people that were talking about how they were excited about the people coming to the server. And, Edgar has been pretty active with making sure everything is going smoothly including joining our channel for the first couple of reset nights.

7. Anything you want other guildies to know that may sway them to move to SF?

A: Personally I’m not a big fan of drama and there seemed to be plenty of it on HoD before I decided to transfer. It is fairly refreshing to be on a server where the community seems to be on the same page. The community is supportive and take time to run events that everyone can benefit from - like Secret Santa. And, we have Barbie. (Pink Day, Toga party, etc.)

E: Well, it seems like we go on a lot more WvW runs now.

T: “WvW is rocking here bitches, get your asses over here.”
