Toga Party 2017
It’s that time of year again, and no, we don’t mean Christmas. Toga Party is right around the corner!
So let me answer some of your burning questions about Toga Party:
What is Toga Party?
Great question! Toga Party is an in-game fundraising event for Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The event was created by Sol’s own Malibu Barbie and is hosted every year in Divinty’s Reach. We will be gathering and having party games and raising real world money for the MS Society of Canada. There will be prizes for each of the party games, as well as donation prizes in-game and out.
Why the MS Society of Canada?
The event’s creator lives in Canada, and she works very closely with the MS Society of Canada. There’s a chapter in the town where she lives!
Another good reason is that, unlike the US MS Society, more of your donations go directly toward helping people with MS right now. Donations go toward helping families dealing with MS, patients getting back and forth to doctor visits, hospital stays, etc. The MS Society of Canada keeps little money to pay its employees, and the employees make less than teachers in the US, which is really saying something.
When is Toga Party?
Toga party is generally in the middle of April, usually the 3rd Saturday of the month. The GGB Krewe hasn’t met yet, so we can’t give you an exact date, but once we know, we’ll let the rest of the guild know.
What is Sol doing for Toga Party?
Last year for Toga Party, Sol Guild donated 4 legendaries to be prizes in the legendary blitz raffles. Members also donated materials and other items to be used as prizes for the party games.
We will be donating legendaries again this year, unless the guild decides it wants to donate something else. Other options include Spirit Weapons sets, the treasure hunter collection, and the named exotics, like Mjolnir and Azimuth. We’ll leave that up to you!
How does ArenaNet feel about this?
ArenaNet’s support of Toga Party and Pink Day has been overwhelming positive. During PAX 2015, Colin (the old CEO of ArenaNet) called Barbie and told everyone about Pink Day and how they should support it. The GGB Krewe also has an ArenaNet liaison, Gaile Grey, who is very supportive and sends us real life Guild Wars 2 prizes to give out to people that donate. At Pink Day, she gave GGB 100 gem store codes to give out to people that donated. And the developers are supportive in game as well, showing up to the events and discussing them in map chat in the days leading up to them.
How can I help?
Another great question! The Gamers Giving Back Krewe will be calling for volunteers to help us plan the event and gather prizes and spread the word. We will announce in guild chat when volunteer meetings will be taking place. Otherwise, you can reach out directly to Barbie, Atra, or Angel for more information.
We look forward to seeing you all there!
